One of the benefits of working with Barron Collier Companies is the company’s encouragement of a well-rounded approach to work and social life. We understand taking time out of the office to get together and socialize, meet each other’s families, and share a laugh is a healthy activity. The Social Committee is always up to the task, planning fun events for team members throughout the year. After taking a break from in-person events in 2020, the committee ramped up programming in 2021 and employees were sure to join in the fun.
Sara Marquez, chair of the Social Committee, states that having the opportunity to share opinions with co-workers and plan fun events that everyone would enjoy is an important part of her role. Most recently, the committee planned an ax-throwing activity at Swamp Axe in Naples, Florida. Team members and their spouses or partner were invited to this after-hours casual event. Joanna Pidgeon, project engineer with Peninsula Engineering, comments, “I had always wanted to try ax throwing and the Swamp Axe social was a perfect opportunity to try something new. My husband and I had a blast and enjoyed being able to connect casually with my fellow coworkers and extended BCC family.”
The Committee sponsored the 2022 Shy Wolf Golf Tournament in September at the beautiful Heritage Bay Golf and Country Club. Team members Kelsey O’Donnell, Ashley McNamara, and Nathan Levy participated in the golf scramble. Levy states, “I am quite new to the sport of golf but thought the scramble format made it very competitive and made us work as a team. The tournament was very well run and if I had to pick the most enjoyable aspect of the tournament, I would have to say it was the comradery that was made with our team. Being able to take risky shots knowing that you have three other teammates that could save you if you made a mistake made it very exciting.” This event attracted both novice golfers and long-time players, such as Kelsey O’Donnell. She adds, “The tournament was a great way to raise money for a good cause such as Shy Wolf Sanctuary. Our Social Committee helps to promote strong company culture.”
Other fun events this year included a family bowling night at Beacon Bowl and “Pop In” poppin Wednesdays with complimentary popcorn in the main Barron Collier Companies breakroom, all encouraging team members to take time to connect with each other and enjoy getting to know one another aside from a professional role.
Marquez explains, “When we attend social gatherings, it gives us the opportunity to see what our coworkers are like outside of daily deadlines and problem-solving. We get to meet the family members whose photos we see daily on our team members’ desks and share some of the things we enjoy doing with the people we spend much of our time with. And it’s fun!”
